The Island of Socotra Africa - the Birthplace of Aliens
By admin On September 8th, 2008 in Cool Places, Funny Image /
Welcome to the island Socotra in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa.
This is one of the most bizarre places on earth. The island is not like no matter what else and think that you are somewhere on another planet. It is believed that the archipelago has been isolated from mainland Africa last 6 - 7 million years that affected its flora and fauna.

Invisible spiders, YIKES! Pretty cool how plants and animals change to adapt to their surroundings. This could easily be a landscape for Hollywood pictures if they were given permission. Wow! The tree with the grass on top reminds me of a painting of a tree that looked like a human brain. Wonder if the guy had made a stop to see this. Wow!

What are the names of these plants?

Wow, you can really see where the line blurs between flora and fungus. Excellent photos.

What are the neame of the trees. So cool I want some for my home in FL.

The umbrella-shaped tree is called the Dragon’s Blood tree. Its sap is a dark red color.
The tree which looks like a blooming elephant leg is called the Desert Rose.
I would love to have bonsai trees like these!

We’ve all had a look - now please let’s stay clear of it, unlike other “Nature Reserves” that ARE spoilt once tourists get hold of tham, regardless of any well-meaning legislation.

Why didn’t I know about this? Stunning! I will now add this island to the world of my daydreams, where it will be deserted and I’ll have to hunt for delicious Middle Eastern pastries running around the island.

The place gives me the creeps.. I really want to say they’re beautiful, but somethow, something feels creepy. I’sm sorry I’m not that brave or apprecaitive of their uniqueness, but it’s just this scary feeling looking at those plants, like they were fetuses that were deformed because of some toxic medicine a mother drunk. Mother nature can very well explain this, but how?
